On August 15, 2025, at about 4:00 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred near the intersection of Kuhio Avenue and Royal Hawaiian Avenue in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 57-year-old male pedestrian was walking eastbound on the south sidewalk of Kuhio Avenue when he tripped and fell into the roadway where he was struck by a 56-year-old male Transit Bus operator traveling eastbound on Kuhio Avenue.
As a result of the collision, the 57-year-old male pedestrian was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
While at the hospital, the 57-year-old male pedestrian’s condition deteriorated and he was later listed in critical condition.
The 56-year-old male Transit Bus operator remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
