On August 04, 2025, at about 2:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle occurred within the intersection of North King Street and Kokea Street, in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 20-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on North King Street at a high rate of speed when he disregarded the red traffic signal at the intersection of Kokea Street, and broadsided a 58-year-old male motorist and his 86-year-old female passenger.
As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old male motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition by Emergency Medical Services.
The 20-year-old male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 58-year-old male motorist and his 86-year-old female passenger remained at the scene and were not injured.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors.
The investigation is on going.
