On August 03, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 23-year-old male moped rider involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 48th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 23 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation remains ongoing.

On August 03, 2025, at about 2:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Kamehameha Highway north of Johnson Road, in the Kualoa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 23-year-old male moped rider was traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway when he attempted to execute a wheelie, lost control, traveled into the northbound lane, and collided head-on with a 53-year-old motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 23-year-old male moped rider was transported to an area hospital in critical condition by Emergency Medical Services.
The 23-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 53-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
