***ORIGINAL***

On July 2, 2024, at about 2:00 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred involving a single motor vehicle in the Waianae area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 33-year-old female motorist was traveling westbound on Paakea Road at a high rate of speed when the 33-year-old female motorist lost control, traveled off the roadway, and collided with a utility pole.

As a result of the initial collision, the 33-year-old female motorist’s vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest and becoming engulfed in flames.

As a result of the collision, the 33-year-old female motorist had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 33-year-old female motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of this collision.

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
