**UPDATE**

On October 30, 2023, at about 1:46 AM, the Vehicular Homicide Section was informed by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the 59-year-old adult female moped rider had succumbed to her injuries and died.

This is the 46th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 38 at the same time in 2022.

This investigation remains on-going.

**ORIGINAL**

On October 24, 2023, at about 7:28 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Farrington Highway near Hawaiian Electric Beach Park in the Nanakuli area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 58-year-old female moped rider exited out of Hawaiian Electric Beach Park and crossed both the eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway, traversed the grass center median, and proceeded across the two westbound lanes of Farrington Highway.

As the 59-year-old female moped rider entered the westbound lanes, she came into the path of travel of a 41-year-old motorist and his passenger, a 41-year-old female traveling westbound on Farrington Highway, and was struck.

As a result of the collision, the 59-year-old female moped operator was ejected onto the roadway.

The 59-year-old female moped operator was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

At the time of the collision the 59-year-old female moped operator was not wearing a helmet.

The 41-year-old male motorist and his 41-year-old female passenger, were not injured and remained at the scene of this collision.

At this time speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
