***ORIGINAL***

On June 16, 2024, at about 3:20 PM, a critical hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Farrington Highway in the Makaha Area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 26-year-old male was involved in a motor vehicle collision and fled the scene on foot towards Farrington Highway.

As vehicles traversed Farrington Highway, the 26-year-old male attempted to stop and enter multiple occupied vehicles.

The 26-year-old male then approached the vehicle of a 50-year-old female motorist who was also traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway, and grabbed ahold of her vehicle and made multiple attempts to reach into the driver’s side window.

As the 50-year-old female motorist accelerated, the 26-year-old male fell from alongside the vehicle onto the roadway, and the 50-year-old female motorist’s vehicle drove over the 26-year-old male. The 50-year-old female motorist then fled the scene of this collision.

As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old male was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 50-year-old female motorist was later located and was placed under arrest for Collisions involving Death or Serious Bodily Injury.

At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
