On September 8, 2026, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 54-year-old adult female passenger involved in this collision had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

This is the 27th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 62 at the same time in 2025.

On August 30, 2026, at about 1:00 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on the H-1 East Freeway in the Waipahu area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that an unidentified motorist was traveling eastbound on the H-1 Freeway when it traveled into the right shoulder and rear-ended a vehicle which was parked in the right shoulder area. After the collision, the unidentified motorist continued traveling eastbound on the H-1 Freeway and onto the Pearl City off-ramp without stopping to render aid or provide information. 

As a result of the collision, the 54-year-old female rear passenger, of the parked vehicle, was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition. 

The 54-year-old female rear passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. 

At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol is a contributing factor of this collision.
