On July 28, 2026, at about 6:50 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on Sand Island Access Road in the Kalihi area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that an unidentified motorist executed a left turn from a driveway onto Sand Island Access Road northbound and struck a 21-year-old male motorist, who was traveling southbound on Sand Island Access Road, causing the 21-year-old male motorist to lose control and strike a telephone pole.

The unidentified motorist continued traveling northbound on Sand Island Access Road without stopping to render aid or provide information.

As a result of the collision, the 21-year-old male motorist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
