On June 8, 2025 at about 3:00 A.M. a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle occurred on South King Street in the Moiliili area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a male pedestrian was attempting to cross South King Street in a marked crosswalk with the pedestrian signal when he was struck by an unknown motorist traveling eastbound on South King Street. The male pedestrian has yet to be identified.
Following the initial collision, the motorist lost control and struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle. As a result of this secondary collision, the parked vehicle was pushed into another parked and unoccupied vehicle. The motorist then fled the scene and was last seen traveling eastbound on South King Street.
Shortly thereafter, The motorist’s vehicle was located by Officers, abandoned at the intersection of Waialae Avenue and Palolo Avenue. The motorist has not yet been identified.
As a result of the collision, the male pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors of this collision.
