On May 24, 2025, at about 8:10 PM, a critical hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred at the intersection of North King Street and Kohou Street, in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 53-year-old female moped rider was traveling westbound on North King Street when it entered the intersection of North King Street and Kohou Street and was struck by an unidentified motorist, that was traveling eastbound on North King Street and attempting to make a left turn onto Kohou Street.
After the collision the unidentified motorist continued traveling northbound on Kohou Street without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 53-year-old female moped rider was ejected onto the roadway and taken to an area hospital in critical condition by Emergency Medical Services.
The 53-year-old female moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol are factors in this collision.
