On Thursday, August 18, 2022, at about 7:24 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist occurred at the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Lehua Street in the Pearl City area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 29 year-old-male motorist was traveling westbound on Kamehameha Highway when he collided with a 20 year-old-male bicyclist that was attempting to cross Kamehameha Highway against the displayed “Do Not Cross” signal.
The 29-year-old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene. The 20 year-old-male bicyclist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 20 year-old-male bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
