On May 18, 2022, at about 8:07 PM, a critical hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist occurred in the area of Kapiolani Boulevard and Keeaumoku Street in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a male bicyclist who has yet to be identified was exiting out of the Ala Moana Shopping Center and attempting to traverse eastbound. As the unidentified male bicyclist entered onto Kapiolani Boulevard, he was struck by an unknown motorist who has yet to be identified.
The unknown motorist was last seen traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard, then turning right onto Mahukona Street towards the parking structure of the Ala Moana Shopping Center, possibly operating a light-colored older model Toyota Sienna passenger van with damages to the front hood of the vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the unidentified male bicyclist was taken to an area hospital and is in critical condition.
The male bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time it is unknown if either speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.
