On October 6, 2023, at about 8:33 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a moped, occurred on Farrington Highway in the Maili area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 38-year-old adult male motorist was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway, when he executed a left turn onto St. John’s Road and collided into an unidentified adult male moped rider, who was traveling westbound on Farrington Highway with no headlights at a high rate of speed.
As a result of the collision, the unidentified adult male moped rider was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The unidentified male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 38-year-old adult male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor on the part of the adult male moped rider. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs is a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
