Update: On December 26, 2020, at about 5:10 p.m., the Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the pedestrian involved in this collision succumbed to his injuries and died.
This is the 54th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 50 at this same time last year.
This investigation is on-going.
On December 24, 2020, at about 11:55 PM, there was a critical motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Kuhio Avenue and Liliuokalani Avenue in the Waikiki area.
A 24-year-old Honolulu male was traveling eastbound on Kuhio Avenue prior to Liliuokalani Avenue when he struck a 27-year-old male who was lying in the roadway. The 27 year-old-male may have possibly been intoxicated at the time of the collision.
The 24-year-old Honolulu male did not flee the scene and immediately called 911 for assistance.
As a result of the collision, the 27-year-old male was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time, alcohol may be a contributing factor to this collision. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
