On December 21, 2020, the 21-year-old female succumbed to her injuries.
This is the 51st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 50 at this same time last year.
On December 18, 2020, at about 11:50 PM, there was a critical motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Ala Alii Street and Kahuapaani Street in the Halawa area.
A 21-year-old Honolulu male was traveling northbound on Kahuapaani Street prior to Ala Alii Street when he struck a 21-year-old Honolulu female in the roadway. The 21 year-old-female who was crossing Kahuapaani Street in a marked crosswalk but did not have the right of way.
The 21-year-old Honolulu male subsequently fled the collision scene and later returned to the scene of the collision.
The 21-year-old Honolulu male was determined to be under the influence and was placed under arrest for Failure to Render Aid, Negligent Injury in the First Degree and Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII).
As a result of the collision, the 21-year-old female was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time, alcohol appears to be a contributing factor to this collision. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
