On May 16, 2026, at about 3:50 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Nimitz Highway in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that an unknown motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Sand Island Access Road, when it struck a 71-year-old female pedestrian who was walking in a marked crosswalk. The unidentified motorcyclist continued traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 71-year-old female pedestrian was taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in
serious condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of the collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a contributing factor.
