On March 6, 2026, at about 10:00 P.M., a motor vehicle collision involving two motorcycles occurred in the Hawaii Kai area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 39-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Kalanianaole Highway when it rear-ended a 23-year-old male motorcyclist, lost control, and collided into the guardrail where it came to rest.
As a result of the collision, the 39-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 39-year-old male motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 23-year-old male motorcyclist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
This is the 10th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 16 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
