On February 5, 2026, at about 11:00 P.M., a serious motor vehicle collision involving an HPD Police Solo Bike Officer occurred on the H1 West Freeway in the Kunia area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 38-year-old HPD Solo Bike Officer was traveling westbound on the H1 West Freeway and stopped at the Kunia Road on-ramp to the H1 West Freeway with blue lights activated to temporarily prevent vehicles from entering the H1 West Freeway, when it was struck by a 27-year-old female motorist that attempted to travel around the 38-year-old HPD Solo Bike Officer.
As a result of the collision, the 38-year-old HPD Solo Bike Officer was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition, where he was later listed in good condition.
The 38-year-old HPD Solo Bike Officer was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 27-year-old female operator exhibited signs of impairment and was subsequently place under arrest for the offense of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant.
At this time alcohol appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. Speed is not a factor, and it is unknown if drugs are a contributing factor of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
