On January 7, 2026, at about 8:25 P.M., a motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Piikoi Street in the Makiki area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an unidentified motorist was traveling northbound on Piikoi Street in lane 1 near the intersection of Lunalilo Street when it traveled into lane 2 and struck a 41-year-old moped operator. The unidentified motorist continued traveling northbound on Piikoi Street without stopping to render aid or provide information. 

As a result of the collision, 41-year-old moped operator was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in good condition.

The 41-year-old moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
