On December 28, 2025, at about 5:04 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on North Nimitz Highway in the Airport area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 64-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on North Nimitz Highway near the intersection of Lagoon Drive when he struck a 35-year-old male pedestrian, who was lying in the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 35-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 64-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
This is the 82nd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year compared to 54 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
