On December 21, 2025, at about 7:53 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Farrington Highway in the Waianae area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 47-year-old female motorist was stopped in the eastbound turn lane of Farrington Highway at the intersection of Leihoku Street when the westbound traffic stopped to allow the 47-year-old female motorist to execute a left turn.
As the 47-year-old female motorist turned onto Leihoku Street, an unidentified male moped operator traveling westbound on Farrington Highway at a high rate of speed, traveled in between and past the westbound traffic stopped at the intersection of Leihoku Street and collided with the 47-year-old female motorist.
As a result of the collision, the unidentified male moped operator was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The unidentified male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 47-year-old female motorist and her 49-year-old male passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
