***ORIGINAL***

On November 29, 2025, at about 7:15 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving an electric motorcycle occurred on Malakeke Street in the Waipahu area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 44-year-old male motorist and his juvenile passenger were traveling westbound on Malakeke Street, when he traveled into the eastbound lane of traffic in an attempt to overtake another vehicle and struck a 19-year-old male electric motorcyclist.

As a result of the collision, the 19-year-old male electric motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 19-year-old male electric motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The 44-year-old male motorist and his juvenile passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors.

The investigation is ongoing.
