On November 4, 2025, at about 5:00 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a passenger on a City and County of Honolulu bus occurred in the Halawa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 44-year-old male bus operator was traveling eastbound on Kamehameha Highway when a 57-year-old male bus passenger fell from his seat onto the bus floor and was unresponsive.
The 57-year-old male passenger was taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.
The 44-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision. No other passengers sustained any injuries.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
This is the 73rd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 40 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
