On October 21, 2025, at about 1:40 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on the H-1 West Freeway in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 65-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway when he stopped for an unrelated motor vehicle collision and was rear-ended by a 17-year-old male motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 65-year-old male motorist was taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition, where his condition deteriorated and he was later listed in critical condition.
The 17-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
