(UPDATE) Motor Vehicle Collision

***UPDATE***

On October 13, 2025, through further investigation, it was determined that the death of the 51-year-old male electric scooter rider was not traffic-related. Evidence collected at the scene, along with witness statements and recovered video surveillance, confirms there were no other motor vehicles involved in this incident.

At this time, there have been 66 Traffic Fatalities on Oahu in 2025.

On October 13, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 51-year-old male electric scooter operator involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

This is the 67th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year compared to 35 at the same time in 2024.

The investigation remains ongoing.

***ORIGINAL***

On October 4, 2025, at about 7:48 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving an electric scooter occurred on North King Street in the Kalihi area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 51-year-old male electric scooter rider was traveling eastbound on North King Street when, for unknown reasons, he lost control and collided with a roadway stanchion, ejecting the 51-year-old electric scooter rider onto the raise center median.

As a result of the collision, the 51-year-old male electric scooter rider was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 51-year-old electric scooter rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor to this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
