On September 8, 2025, at about 6:50 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred in the Kaneohe area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 52-year-old female moped operator was traveling eastbound on Kaneohe Bay Drive when she was rear-ended by a 79-year-old male motorist. The collision caused the 52-year-old female to be ejected onto the asphalt roadway in the right shoulder, where she was struck by a 31-year-old male motorist, who attempted to pass the 79-year-old male motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 52-year-old female moped operator succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 52-year-old female moped operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Both the 79-year-old male motorist and the 31-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the collision.
This is the 59th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year compared to 29 at the same time in 2024.
