On August 28, 2025, at about 12:03 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Nimitz Highway in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 50-year-old male pedestrian was lying in the roadway of the eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway when he was struck by an unidentified motorist who continued traveling eastbound on Nimitz Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information. After the initial collision, the 50-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a second unidentified motorist who continued traveling eastbound on Nimitz Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 50-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition where his condition deteriorated, and he was later listed in critical condition.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, alcohol, or drugs are factors in this collision.
