On August 23, 2025, at about 12:27 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle occurred on the H1 Freeway, eastbound, in the Kalihi Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 19-year-old female motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the H1 Freeway at a high rate of speed when she sideswiped a 28-year-old male motorist and his 29-year-old female passenger, lost control, and was ejected onto the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 19-year-old female motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 19-year-old female motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 28-year-old male motorist and his 29-year-old female passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
