On July 29, 2025, at about 11:39 PM, a critical Motor Vehicle Collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Farrington Highway, west of Kaukama Street in the Maili area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 36-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway, and struck a 62-year-old male pedestrian who was in a wheelchair and crossing the roadway in the northbound direction outside of a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 62-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 36-year-old male motorist and his 33-year-old female passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor of this collision .
This is the 46th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 23 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
