On July 20, 2025, at about 7:55 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped and a vehicle occurred within the intersection of McCully Street and Fern Street, in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 37-year-old male motorist and his juvenile passenger were traveling northbound on McCully Street and executing a left turn towards Fern Street, when they broadsided a 51-year-old male moped rider, that was traveling in the opposite direction.
As a result of the collision, the 51-year-old male moped rider was transported to an area hospital in critical condition by Emergency Medical Services.
The 37-year-old male motorist and his juvenile passenger remained at the scene and were not injured.
The 37-year-old male motorist and his juvenile passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. However, the 51-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
