On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at about 5:53 a.m., a Major Motor Vehicle Collision occurred in the Laie area involving a single vehicle with a single occupant.
A Chevrolet sedan operated by an 82 year old male, was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway when it veered off the road and struck a wooden utility pole, fronting the Malaekahana State Park. The operator of the sedan was taken to an area hospital in good condition. The Vehicular Homicide Section (VHS) did not respond to the scene.
On Sunday, December 19, 2021, at about 8:10 p.m., the VHS was notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the operator succumbed to his injuries and died.
Speed, Drugs, and Alcohol does not appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
This is the 44th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 50 at this same time last year.
