Ka`ewai Elementary School recently welcomed Officer Adam Picadura from the Honolulu Police Department for their Career Day. With nearly six years on the force, Officer Picadura serves on the District 5 Community Policing Team and shared his story with the first graders.

During his visit, he explained how his father, a retired Hawai`i police officer, inspired him to join HPD. For Officer Picadura, policing is more than just a job—it’s a way to give back to the community. He also coaches high school football in his spare time, showing that his commitment to the community extends beyond his badge.

Officer Picadura encouraged the students to stay in school and make good choices, and he emphasized the importance of being responsible. The students enjoyed the Q&A session, asking questions about the tools on his duty belt. He pointed out the handcuffs, flashlight, police radio, and conducted energy weapon, explaining that they’re used to keep people safe, and not toys. The first graders were especially interested in the handcuffs, which Officer Picadura showed and shared with them.
