The Honolulu Police Department’s District 8 support units continue enforcement operations in West Oʻahu to address illegal e-dirt bike activity. These efforts support HPD’s ongoing commitment to improving traffic safety by preventing crashes and reducing injuries.
On June 18, 2026, officers conducted a district-wide operation across ʻEwa, Kapolei, Nānākuli and Waiʻanae. During the operation, officers recovered nine e-dirt bikes and issued 12 citations to adults and juveniles for violations related to illegal operation and roadway use. Officers also arrested five juveniles for driving without a license.
“Our officers remain committed to improving traffic safety in our community and reducing dangerous riding behaviors that put both riders and the public at risk,” said District 8 Capt. Marino Carreira. “We remind the public that e-dirt bikes are not street legal and encourage riders to consider safer, lawful transportation options, such as pedal-assisted e-bicycles, while also ensuring operators understand and follow traffic safety rules.”
HPD will continue enforcement and education efforts across the island to promote safe riding practices, legal compliance, and safer roadways for the community. For more traffic safety information, please visit https://www.honolulupd.org/safer-roads-together/.
