HONOLULU – The Honolulu Police Department’s District 8 support units are continuing focused enforcement operations in West Oʻahu to curb illegal e-dirt bike activity. The ongoing operations are part of HPD’s broader traffic safety initiative aimed at reducing crashes and injuries.
On May 20, 2026, officers conducted enforcement efforts along the Leeward Coast, recovering five e-dirt bikes and issuing 10 citations to adults and juveniles for violations involving illegal operation and roadway use. The public is reminded that high-powered e-dirt bikes do not meet the legal requirements for street use and pose serious safety risks to riders, pedestrians, and motorists.
“HPD’s priority is keeping our roadways safe for everyone,” said District 8 Captain Marino Carreira. “We encourage parents to remind their keiki of safe riding behaviors and ask that all roadway users follow traffic laws and safety regulations.”
HPD will continue enforcement and education efforts across Oʻahu to promote safe riding practices, legal compliance, and safer roadways for the community. For more information regarding traffic safety, please visit https://www.honolulupd.org/safer-roads-together/.
