On October 21, 2026, just after 9:00 p.m., District 4 officers responded to a domestic abuse incident at a Kailua residence involving a 42-year-old female victim and a 43-year-old male suspect.
The victim had fled before officers arrived. Officers initially contacted the suspect and later located the victim, who reported that he had physically abused her.
When officers returned to detain the suspect, he exited the residence carrying a long gun. He fired multiple rounds toward responding officers before retreating inside.
The Specialized Services Division responded to the resulting barricade. Officers established contact with the suspect and convinced him to surrender. He was arrested for Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Reckless Endangering in the First Degree, and misdemeanor Abuse of a Family or Household Member. The investigation remains ongoing.
“We understand that incidents like these can raise concerns about public safety in our community,” said Honolulu Police Chief David Lazar. “I want to reassure the public that the Honolulu Police Department remains committed to protecting our residents and responding to calls when our community needs it most. I also want to commend the responding officers for their courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to protecting the people we serve.”
