HONOLULU — The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) will observe National Police Week from May 11–15, 2026, honoring officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and recognizing those who continue to protect and serve our communities.
Every day across Oʻahu, HPDʻs sworn officers and civilian personnel respond to calls for service, support communities and step forward in moments of need, continuing the legacy of those who came before them.
“National Police Week is a time of remembrance, gratitude and renewed purpose for the Honolulu Police Department,” said Interim Police Chief Rade Vanic. “We honor the 51 members of our department whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we stand with the families who carry their memory each day. Their legacy lives on through the men and women who continue to wear the badge with humility, accountability and aloha — serving not only as officers, but as neighbors, parents, friends and partners in communities across our island.”
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and established the calendar week in which it falls as National Police Week. Since then, communities nationwide have paused each year to remember officers who lost their lives protecting others and to recognize those who continue answering the call to serve.
Fifty-one fallen law enforcement officers are memorialized on HPD’s Roll of Honor. Their names remain a lasting reminder of courage, sacrifice and the responsibility shared by every member of the department to serve with integrity. Click here to learn more about these individuals.
Throughout the week, HPD personnel, city leaders, community partners, and residents will come together to reflect, recognize service and strengthen the partnerships that help keep the City and County of Honolulu safe.
