HONOLULU — The Honolulu Police Department will launch its first annual Lights of Aloha digital holiday campaign on Nov. 18 to promote safety and community service during the holiday season. The campaign focuses on two priorities: service and safety.
From delivering meals and visiting kūpuna to conducting impaired-driver checkpoints and fireworks enforcement, HPD is working to protect both the spirit and safety of Oʻahu’s families.
“Lights of Aloha is about service and safety — the gifts HPD gives back to our community,” said Interim Chief Rade Vanic. “Safety is a shared responsibility and every decision to celebrate responsibly helps protect our families and neighbors.”
Vanic added, “The holidays bring people together and HPD is proud to stand with our community to make sure those gatherings are safe, joyful and filled with aloha.”
The campaign combines safety awareness, community service and digital storytelling to encourage responsible celebrations throughout the holiday season.
Campaign Goals
The Lights of Aloha campaign aims to reduce impaired driving and fireworks-related incidents and injuries through education, outreach and enforcement.
Core Campaign Activities
12 Days of Service (Dec. 13–24):
A digital storytelling series will feature HPD officers giving back through acts such as delivering meals to kūpuna, bringing the HPD K9 unit to schools and taking part in the Heroes and Helpers program. In this program, schools select children to receive gifts purchased with donations from community partners, and officers often chip in personally to make sure every child’s wish is fulfilled.
Each story will be shared on HPD’s social media platforms and website to highlight the department’s commitment to community and safety.
Holiday Safety Blitz (Dec. 24–31):
HPD will emphasize impaired driving prevention and fireworks safety through increased visibility and enforcement across the island.
These checkpoints aren’t just about tickets or arrests — they’re about saving lives.
New Year’s Eve Operations (Dec. 31–Jan. 1):
As Oʻahu rings in 2026, HPD will share safety tips and reminders to help residents and visitors celebrate responsibly.
