Service and Safety – the gifts HPD gives back to our community

Holiday safety reminders

What is Lights of Aloha?

Lights of Aloha is HPD’s holiday campaign focused on two priorities: service and safety.

From acts of giving back through our 12 Days of Service to impaired-driver checkpoints and fireworks enforcement, HPD is protecting both the spirit and safety of Oʻahu during the holidays. Lights of Aloha spotlights service, safety and responsible celebrations.

12 Days of Service

Over twelve days in December, HPD will spotlight community initiatives and partnerships that reflect the spirit of aloha. Activities will include:

Community Service Projects: Officers volunteering alongside local organizations to give back to neighborhoods.

Holiday Safety Messaging: Sharing reminders on impaired driving, fireworks, and traffic safety to help keep Oʻahu safe.

Watch the stories below.

Keeping our island safe starts with taking care of our people. This holiday season, HPD is partnering with the Hawaiʻi Food Bank to help put food on the tables for kūpuna and families in need.

HPD officers served our community in a special way by helping keiki shop for holiday gifts during our Heroes & Helpers event at Target Ala Moana yesterday. HPD Community Policing Teams host similar events throughout the holidays to connect with keiki and their families island wide.

District 4 officers teamed up with a local shelter in Kahaluʻu and the First Assembly of God to make the holidays brighter for keiki who need it most. #LightsOfAloha #HPD #WithAlohaWeServe

As part of our commitment to serving beyond enforcement, HPD’s Specialized Services Division officers and K9s spent the day teaching Hawai’i Baptist Academy students about safety, preparedness, and the heart of public service.

Mahalo to Those we Partner With in Community Service

The Honolulu Police Department extends its gratitude to the Hawai‘i Foodbank for their invaluable partnership in our Lights of Aloha campaign.

The Hawai‘i Foodbank stands as a critical pillar, working tirelessly to distribute millions of pounds of food annually, ensuring that no one in our islands goes hungry. Working alongside these selfless organizations truly embodies the aloha spirit, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to serve the people of O’ahu.
