The Honolulu Police Department’s District 8 partnered with Weed and Seed Hawai‘i to host the 22nd Annual Appreciation Luncheon on July 16, celebrating the culmination of the 22nd Culinary Arts Summer Program. After several weeks of learning the fundamentals of culinary arts, the students were tasked with preparing a lunch buffet to showcase all they had learned. These students were recognized not only by satisfying the attendees’ appetites but also with certificates and high school credits.
This partnership included Campbell High School, which provided the facility and course credits; Executive Chef Darryl Shinogi of Roy’s Ko Olina, who offered expert guidance as the instructor; Weed and Seed Hawai‘i, which supplied the food; and the District 8 Community Policing Team, which provided mentorship by working side-by-side with the students in the kitchen and assisting with any additional tasks. The partnership extends beyond these contributors, with many others to thank, many of whom attended the Appreciation Luncheon. The success of this program is reflected in the achievements of each child, demonstrating that law enforcement work has many facets and can only succeed with the community by its side.
