Ask HPD: Blue Lights on Officer's Vehicle

Question: Do police officers need to have their blue lights on in order to give someone a ticket?

Answer: When issuing citations, officers may not always be in their vehicles. If you are being stopped by an HPD officer in a vehicle, the blue strobe roof lights should be activated. If the vehicle attempting to pull you over does not have blue lights, you can call 911 to verify that this is an HPD officer.
