
On July 24, 2025, the HPD Traffic Division’s Night Enforcement Unit conducted two sobriety checkpoints at different locations on O‘ahu, screening 408 drivers for impairment in just over an hour. O‘ahu has already had 45 fatalities this year, and these checkpoints are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce traffic deaths and injuries.
Farrington Highway in Waipahu:
117 Vehicles screened
10 Citations issued (nine for driving without a valid driver’s license)
2 Impaired driver arrests
1 Habitual OVUII arrest (alcohol-related)
1 OVUII arrest (drug-related)
3 Other arrests (outstanding warrant and driving while license revoked)
Keeaumoku Street in Makiki:
291 Vehicles screened
3 Citations issued
2 Impaired driver arrests for OVUII (alcohol-related)
So far this year, the Honolulu Police Department has made 1,044 impaired driving arrests. We are inviting the community to join the Honolulu Police Department in preventing impaired driving, ensuring safer roads for everyone.
