With more than 25,000 people expected to attend the “A Hui Hou Tribute to Fiji” concert on Saturday, Sept. 13, the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is reminding the public to prioritize safety and be prepared for significant traffic and parking impacts in the Kapi‘olani Park area.
“Our top priority is ensuring everyone can enjoy the concert safely,” HPD Major Events Division Major Cliff Ramson said. “We’ve been coordinating with the city, first responders and event organizers for weeks in preparation for this large gathering. We ask the public to kōkua by following instructions and looking out for one another.”
Due to the size of the expected crowd and the unique challenges of an open-air venue like Kapi‘olani Park, HPD will have a strong police presence throughout the event to maintain a safe environment.
Before You Go: Traffic and Transportation
HPD strongly encourages the use of alternative transportation, ride-share services or carpooling to help reduce traffic congestion and parking challenges.
- Parking Restrictions: “No Parking” signs will be posted 48 to 72 hours before the concert, with restrictions in effect from 11 p.m. on Sept. 12 through 11 p.m. on Sept. 13 on the following streets:

- Monsarrat Avenue, from Kalākaua Avenue to Paki Avenue (both sides).
- Leahi Avenue, from Noela Street to Kapahulu Avenue (both sides).
- Street Closures: Paki Avenue (eastbound) from Kapahulu Avenue to Kalākaua Avenue and Kalākaua Avenue to Monsarrat Avenue will be closed to public access starting at 5 p.m. and reserved for first responders.
- Shuttle Service: Shuttles will operate from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and again from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., running between the Neal Blaisdell Center and Waikīkī Shell with pick-up and drop-off in front of the Shell on Monsarrat Avenue. Approximately 15-20 shuttles will be available.
During the Concert: Public Safety Tips
Concertgoers are reminded to follow all rules and regulations to ensure a safe experience for everyone.
- Park rules will be strictly enforced, including prohibitions on alcohol consumption and drone usage.
- E-bikes must comply with all traffic rules.
- Always be patient, follow the directions of officers managing traffic control and look out for each other, especially keiki and kūpuna.
After the Concert: Travel Safely
HPD reminds all attendees to plan their departure ahead of time and to never drink and drive. Keeping the roads safe is everyone’s kuleana. Remember to slow down, buckle up, and drive distraction-free. Shuttle service will be available after the concert to help facilitate safe travel.
This will be a busy weekend, with several major events taking place across Honolulu. If you prefer to avoid the crowds, we encourage you to enjoy the livestream from home. It’s a great way to participate in the tribute while helping reduce traffic and parking challenges. Whether you attend in person or watch remotely, HPD reminds everyone to please look out for each other and celebrate with aloha, respect and safety in mind.
