Interim Chief Vanic recently conducted an inspection of the Major Events Division (MED) to ensure its operational readiness and to commend personnel for their exemplary work. Inspections involve a review of the division’s personnel, facilities, equipment, vehicles, and overall operations [Policy 5.05, Inspections and Annual Chief’s Review].
The MED is responsible for preparing the Honolulu Police Department to handle critical incidents that exceed a single division’s resources and require extended operational management. Duties include command and support at major events, interagency communications, coordinating infrastructure assessments, and participating in joint training with other agencies. They also respond to emergencies such as active threats, disasters, pandemics, and civil disturbances.
