As part of the Honolulu Police Department’s (HPD) ongoing effort to make Oahu roads safer, officers will be setting up impaired driver checkpoints at unannounced times and locations across the island.  The checkpoints will be set up from March 1, through April 30, 2022, including but not limited to St. Patrick’s Day, Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day, and the Easter holiday weekend.

The HPD wants to remind the public to never drink and drive.  The legal drinking age is 21, and promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of 21 is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one-year imprisonment.

Honolulu police officers have been conducting impaired driver checkpoints every week from September 2021 and will continue to do so through September 2022 as part of the federal “52/12” sobriety checkpoint program.
