After a five-year pause, the Honolulu Police Department proudly hosted its sixth Youth Citizens Academy, welcoming 25 students between the ages of 13 and 18 for a hands-on look at life in law enforcement.
Over the course of a week and a half, students dove into real-world police activities. They experienced operating a patrol car, paid a visit to the gun range, met HPD’s K9 unit, and much more. The students learned directly from working officers in the field.
The goal? To spark interest in law enforcement careers and offer a firsthand glimpse into the duties, challenges, and teamwork that come with protecting and serving the community.
Supervised by HPD, the program gave students valuable exposure to the human side of policing, and maybe even inspired a few future recruits along the way.
HPD thanks the participants, families, and officers who made this return such a success. We’re excited to keep building bridges with our youth and shaping the next generation of leaders.
