The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) remains committed to keeping our communities safe, especially in areas where students and families are present.
On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at about 2:20 p.m., officers from HPD’s District 4 conducted a high-visibility traffic safety operation near Castle High School in response to reckless driving concerns. During the operation, officers observed burnout and exhibition-type driving activity.
Four individuals, including two adults and two juveniles, were arrested for reckless driving. Four vehicles were also towed from the scene. All arrests were made without incident. The adult arrestees were issued $500 bail, and the juveniles were released to their parents.
HPD discourages this type of behavior. Reckless driving can have serious consequences, and one poor decision can quickly lead to tragedy.
“Keeping the public safe is our number one priority, especially where students are involved,” said Randall Platt, Acting Assistant Chief of HPD’s Investigative Bureau. “We want everyone to enjoy the end of the school year safely and responsibly. It’s not fun or impressive when someone gets hurt.”
In the interest of safety, HPD will continue to monitor areas where reckless driving concerns may affect students, families, and the broader community.
Working with communities is key to effective policing, and HPD encourages all drivers to make responsible choices, respect others on the road, and drive with aloha.
