The Honolulu Police Department’s District 8 support units conducted an e-bike and e-motorcycle enforcement operation on Nov. 11, 2025, to address ongoing safety concerns in the Kapolei and ʻEwa areas.
During the operation, officers issued 16 citations for violations including no tax and no safety inspection, as well as one citation to a motorcycle rider carrying a passenger under the age of 7. Officers also issued nine warnings and recovered six e-dirt bikes that were being operated illegally on public roadways.
The HPD reminds the public that e-dirt bikes and similar high-powered electric vehicles are not legal for street use. These bikes can reach dangerous speeds and pose serious risks to both riders and other road users.
“Our goal is to keep our roadways safe for everyone,” said a District 8 Lieutenant Marino Carreira. “We encourage parents and riders to know the laws and understand the risks before taking these bikes onto public streets.”
The department will continue conducting enforcement operations across Oʻahu to promote safety and compliance with traffic laws.
