The Honolulu Police Department’s District 8 support units conducted an e-bike and e-motorcycle enforcement operation on Jan. 15, 2026, to address ongoing safety concerns in the ʻEwa area.
During the operation, officers issued 12 citations for violations, including driving without a license, vehicle registration and safety check offenses. Officers also recovered six e-dirt bikes that were being operated illegally on public roadways.
The HPD reminds the public that e-dirt bikes and similar high-powered electric vehicles are not legal for street use. These bikes can reach dangerous speeds and pose serious risks to riders and other road users.
“Safety on our roadways is a shared responsibility,” said District 8 Captain Marino Carreira. “Parents and riders should take the time to understand the laws and risks involved before operating these bikes on public streets.”
The department will continue conducting enforcement operations across Oʻahu to promote safety and compliance with traffic laws.
