On April 17, 2026, at approximately 8:22 a.m., Honolulu Police Department District 4 officers responded to a report of a dangerous dog in Waimānalo.
Upon arrival, an officer observed the dog behaving aggressively toward multiple individuals at the scene. The dog then became aggressive toward the officer. Fearing for his safety, the officer discharged his department-issued firearm multiple times toward the dog. The dog fled the area and was later located nearby. It was transported by HPD to the Hawaiian Humane Society and appeared to be uninjured.
Prior to police arrival, a male sustained injuries from the dog. The male was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital for further care.
When dealing with a suspected dangerous dog or animal, the public is encouraged to call 911 to report the incident, and to not approach the animal in question.
