CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department want to warn the public about a modeling scam on social media.
Recently, the HPD has seen an increase in cases involving juvenile females being solicited by “modeling scouts” via Instagram. These juveniles are receiving messages from the scouts who promise a career in modeling. The juveniles are then instructed to send photos of themselves wearing little or no clothing. In some cases, the scouts offered to send a vehicle to juvenile’s residence to arrange an in-person meeting at the mall.
Please do not engage in conversations with strangers online. Parents are also encouraged to talk to their children about the dangers of social media. If you receive these types of messages on social media, please contact police. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300. The public may now send anonymous web tips to www.honolulucrimestoppers.org or via the P3 Tips app.
